Laser Technology is Not Just A Sci-fi Concept, It’s Used for Medical Procedures Too

If you think your only knowledge of laser technology is limited to the laser lightsabers you’ve seen in your favorite Star Wars movies, Star Trek episodes or sci-fi TV shows, think again. You’d be surprised to know that laser technology has been around for about five decades, which is long before Captain Kirk sets off on his final frontier. The fact is, you see laser technology used in a multitude of products and services that you utilize every day, like store barcode scanners, laser printers, CD players, DVD drives and more. The term “laser” is an acronym for “light amplification by stimulated emission of radiation”. This source of light has the unique ability to narrowly focus on a tight spot and deliver a high degree of energy to that particular point, which makes it a highly useful tool for cutting, welding and especially medical procedures. Laser technology is a prominent technique used in medicine and because of it’s versatile benefits, it has proven to be a mechanism that will have a lasting role in diagnosing precancerous cells and cancer growth in its early stages. Currently you can find an exponential increase in it use amongst specialties in branches of medicine like ophthalmology, dermatology, cardiology, gastroenterology, oncology and precise surgical treatments. Because of the remarkable surgical precision lasers allow, neurosurgeons can perform incisions more meticulously and use them as endoscopic guides for brain and spinal cord procedures. Laser technology has become such a preferred method of treatment for physicians that veterinarians have found that it’s more effective for the excision of tumorous growths, endoscopic procedures and coagulation surgery for eye disease.  It’s also used in oral surgery, drilling tooth cavities, tooth desensitization and antibiotic treatments for oral infections. So, you’ll find many dentists using this technology to provide more comfort and precision to their patients. In fact, technicians from various types of practices are now able to perform a myriad of less invasive surgeries for tumors, polyps, kidney stones, detached retinas, prostates, warts and many more. So, be prepared to hear more uses of laser technology in the medical field. Gynecology and obstetrics is a particular field of medicine, where laser technology has been used in place of x-rays to treat vaginal atrophy, a condition that effects about 40% of women over the age of 50 or who are experiencing menopause, breast cancer or have had hysterectomies. Because the vaginal walls begin to thin, it can lead to burning and painful sensations when urinating and having intercourse.  So, a CO2 fractional laser is used to release energized heat into the depth of the vaginal tissue. Through a special pulse, the heat helps to stimulate  new collagen production, which thickens and accelerates moisture, so the vagina returns to the condition it was in before it atrophied. Laser technology is also used for aesthetic purposes. If you’re interested in permanently removing a tattoo, birthmark or unwanted hair, many technicians will now use a laser powered instrument for the treatment. It’s faster, provides lasting effects and can be more comfortable than traditional procedures. Because of it’s safety and effectiveness, light based laser instruments are frequently used for aesthetic services on men and women. Technicians are able to perform non-invasive, quick procedures that save on costs, recovery time and produce little to no side effects for the patient. The outcomes are more positive than conventional aggressive treatments and give the patients more self-assurance, resulting in more people choosing laser treatments as their best option for aesthetic improvement. Even dieters and those who have been unsuccessful at shedding stubborn body fat have turned to laser treatment for fat reduction and body contouring. There are FDA approved non-invasive laser treatments that can specifically target areas of fat on the body, melt or freeze the fat cells, so that they die and are metabolized naturally in the body. These procedures are known as coolsculpting for freezing fat cells and velashape for heating fat cells. Laser technology is one of the greatest alternatives to traditional cosmetic surgery and will continue to gain popularity because of its fast, virtually pain free results. Continued improvements can be expected, so for now, if you are considering laser treatment, be sure to consult with a licensed technician, who is  informative and uses state-of-the-art equipment. It’s imperative that you make sure the technician is efficient at placing your safety and comfort as their first priority, so you can get the best care. At Home vs Professional Laser Hair Removal

Laser hair removal is one of the most popular cosmetic procedures on the market. It’s an effective option for prolonged and sometimes permanent hair removal.  This safe, non-invasive procedure uses laser technology to infiltrate and disrupt the hair follicles, thereby suppressing and sometimes permanently halting hair re-growth. With millions of people opting to try laser hair removal, it’s not surprising that there are now laser hair removal devices available for purchase for at home use. Before deciding to try your own hand at this procedure using a department store product, consider that there are risks involved. At-home users have not been trained and are not experienced in performing this procedure. Besides that, in order to be able to sell these products to the public, the power of the device must be dramatically reduced, making them far less effective than a medical laser. On the other hand, having the procedure done by a professional with a medical laser device offers a host of benefits you won’t get with an at-home device. The technique is gentle and involves minimal discomfort or pain Larger areas can be treated during each procedure, because the technician can remove patches of hair, instead of strand by strand. The procedure is more powerful and effective at permanently removing hair Burns or blisters can be avoided No downtime The lasers can be adjusted to accommodate different types of skin   With at-home hair removal devices, the results aren’t the same and there are more risks involved, particularly for those with dark skin. A med-spa technician will choose an appropriate laser with the correct wavelength to safely treat any color of skin. When done properly, the laser beam will only destroy the melanin in the hair follicle and avoid damaging the skin. Only a professional will have the skill for these special circumstances, so they can lessen the risk of side-effects or blisters on the skin.   To ensure a safe and effective treatment, make an appointment with a licensed professional at a med spa. The trained professionals at Advanced Skin Fitness use medical grade laser hair removal devices and will advise you on how to maintain your treatments. We’re open 10AM to 6PM Tuesday – Friday and 10AM – 4PM on Saturdays for your convenience. Drop by and talk with us. Advanced Skin Fitness 2928 Oak Lawn Avenue Dallas, Texas 75219 (214) 521-5277

Tattoo Removal with Cutera Enlighten

You’ve been tatted up for years and now you feel it’s time to get rid of the body art you got back when you were younger and a bit of a rebel. Sure, you’re one of millions of Americans who have tattoo remorse and have resigned themselves to being stuck with stretched out, dull body art that’s not so meaningful anymore. So why don’t you just have it lasered off? Uh, you heard that it’s costly, takes dozens of sessions and even then you’re not guaranteed that it will be fully removed. Ouch! Well, you don’t have to totally rule out laser tattoo-removal. Cutera Enlighten is a new laser tattoo-removal system that can not only fully remove your tattoo, it can do it in much less time than traditional laser tattoo-removal procedures. Yes, really! So how does it work and what makes it so unique? Cutera Enlighten System is an advanced tattoo-removal process that offers two different types of laser beams combined with two different types of laser pulses to break down the pigment of the tattoo. The small particles are then absorbed through the skin and naturally expelled by the body. The Cutera Enlighten procedure is able to remove all colors of ink as well as solid tattoos and tattoos with shadows and fading. It takes a fraction of the time that other procedures take, which is about 4-6 sessions as opposed to 10-30 sessions through traditional laser tattoo-removal. It’s because Cutera Enlighten delivers faster high powered laser pulses, so the ink breaks up more efficiently to fully remove the ink from the skin. Since there aren’t as many sessions required, the costs are significantly lower, resulting in about $300-$500. Contact your technician to get an exact quote. Many patients worry about scarring and pain. Scarring shouldn’t happen if patients avoid the sun or wear a sunscreen with SPF 25 or higher. They should also apply ointment, avoid scraping the skin and avoid hot tubs. Women who are pregnant and people who have dark skin, poor circulation or immune system problems  may see a higher risk of scarring. The procedure itself is not painful, but can feel like the snapping of a rubber band. To avoid unnecessary discomfort a topical numbing cream can be applied to the area. So come in today to have your tattoo removed with Cutera Enlighten. Don’t worry about downtime or side effects. You can go right back to your regular routine after each session. Now you may experience some minor irritation or redness, but it’s only temporary. Your tattoo will be permanently gone! We’re open 10AM to 6PM Tuesday – Friday and 10AM – 4PM on Saturdays for your convenience. Drop by and talk with us. Advanced Skin Fitness 2928 Oak Lawn Avenue Dallas, Texas 75219 (214) 521-5277

7 Reasons to Get a Monthly Facial

Okay, so you can admit that you have problem skin and you’re probably no different from the average person who slathers on mud masks, uses scrubs every other day and even steams their face from time to time hoping to regain the youthful glow they once had. The truth is, no matter what you do your skin just doesn’t feel smooth anymore. In fact, you have fine lines, wrinkles and dead skin that’s compromising the texture. Sure, you can blame it on the sun, clogged pores and even cosmetics, but why not focus on putting those skin issues in the past and get your bright even skin tone back? You should consider getting a monthly facial to put you on track for beautiful radiant skin. You’ll be able to keep pores unclogged and skin smooth with minimized lines and wrinkles. If you’re not convinced, here are 7 reasons you should consider getting a monthly facial:   1.Exfoliation – This process involves routinely removing dead skin cells from the epidermis, the outer layer of the skin. Regularly ridding the skin of environmental grease and dirt, will ultimately improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and give the skin a smoother texture. 2. Increased circulation – Regular facials stimulate circulation to the layers of the skin. By encouraging a rush of blood, the skin will attain a healthy glow and skin cells will be plump from the vital nutrients and water. 3. Extractions – Monthly facials involve using special methods and tools to deep clean the skin for the  prevention of redness and effective elimination of blackheads. 4. Long term benefits – Combining monthly facials with daily maintenance will preserve smooth skin and reduce the recurrence of breakouts. 5. Stress relief – Having your skin massaged provides a soothing and relaxing effect 6. Professional tools, professional results – Professional spa equipment and effective skin products will allow more active ingredients to penetrate deeper into the skin. 7. Custom results – Before receiving a facial, your specific skin care concerns are addressed, along with a diagnosis of your skin condition and the probable cause. This way the technician knows how to properly treat the problem. At Advanced Skin Fitness, we recommend getting monthly a hydrafacial treatment for your monthly facials. This multi-step treatment delivers the beneficial properties of an elevated chemical peel and dermabrasion. Dead skin and excess oil are removed from the skin and pores. During the treatment the skin is preserved with Antiox serum, antioxidants, Peptides and Hyaluronic Acid to hydrate the skin, so that it holds moisture and elasticity. To make your appointment for a monthly facial, stop by or call us today. We’re open 10AM to 6PM Tuesday – Friday and 10AM – 4PM on Saturdays for your convenience. Drop by and talk with us. How Hydroquinone works for Melasma and Hyper-pigmentation.

It happens to a multitude of women, those brown patchy discolorations that appear on the skin. Women experience a plethora of skin changes during their reproductive years. Many of these changes are due to UVA/UVB exposure, which increases the production of melanin, external hormones and internal hormones. One of these common skin conditions is melasma. Melasma is a skin condition that appears as brown patches on the upper cheeks, forehead, upper lip and chin. It typically occurs in women between the ages of 20-50 years of age. It’s also characterized as hyperpigmentation and is usually treated by 4% hydroquinone, a skin lightening agent that is topically applied to the skin. Hydroquinone works by blocking tyrosinase, an enzyme in the skin that produces melanin, while it lightens the skin, fades dark patches and evens skin tone. By using hydroquinone combined with an in office treatment of kojic acid, it performs as one of the most effective treatments to lighten skin affected by melasma. Hydrafacial with britinol is recommended.   Most people who use hydroquinone have darker olive skin and are usually from Hispanic, Asian, and Middle Eastern descent. They most commonly develop melasma during pregnancy, take birth control pills or are regularly exposed to the sun. Hydroquinone is also used for acne spots, age spots and freckles. There are a few precautions that should be taken while using hydroquinone. You should avoid the sun, cover the skin and use a sun block with SPF 50 or more. Some women may experience side effects like temporary skin irritations, mild itching or redness. To avoid severe discomfort, you should perform a skin test. You can do this by applying a small amount of hydroquinone cream to an area of skin that is open or bruised. If the area becomes inflamed, extremely red or unbearably itchy, you should stop using the product immediately. If you have asthma or have skin conditions like eczema or psoriasis, it may not be safe for you to use it, so consult your doctor if you’re considering using hydroquinone. Stop by our offices if you are experience melasma, we can treat your skin to have you seeing results in a few weeks time. We’re open 10AM to 6PM Tuesday – Friday and 10AM – 4PM on Saturdays for your convenience. Drop by and talk with us. Advanced Skin Fitness 2928 Oak Lawn Avenue Dallas, Texas 75219 (214) 521-5277
